Your Life Your Times Skills Development: Indesign/Photoshop/Photography

Indesign
  • I have learnt how to place an image, to do this I would create a box by using the rectangled frame tool. I would stretch the box to the size that I want my picture to be, I then click on the box so that it is highlighted and then click file, place, I then have to find the image within my documents to place and then click ok. This will place the image within the box I drew. If I want to move the image around in the box I just use the select tool, if the image is too small and I need to enlarge it, I need to hold down shift and grab the corners of the image and pull them out. This will allow my image to enlarge without stretching and losing the shape of the original image.
  • I have also learnt how to text wrap. In my dps I have used text wrap on the quote inserts, this is so that the quote will create a barrier forcing the text of my article to wrap around it. To do this I placed my quote on top of my article so that the words were on top of each other, I then clicked window, ticked text wrap, this brought up a small side box which had the option to wrap around the shape. I selected the quote insert and then clicked the option.
  • I've learnt how to insert a drop cap. This is where the first letter of an article/paragraph is about two/three lines larger than the normal sized font. To do this I highlighted the letter I wanted to enlarge
  • I've also learnt how to insert a drop cap, this is where the first letter or sometimes the first word of the article is larger than the rest of the text. To do this I selected the letter and increased the drop cap tool size.
Photoshop
  • I have leant how to edit the brightness and contrast.
  • Use dodge and burn.
  • Increase and decrease the saturation.
  • I could use the fx tool to emboss, create inner and outer shadows on the text and shapes.
I really like Photoshop, I find it a lot easier to use than Indesign and I've gotten used to how the tools work quite quickly. The layers really helped me when creating my product as although I had lots of things on the page, I could select and focus on one thing at a time without it getting confusing.

Photography

Learning one the photography skills has been one of my favourite parts of the media process, I am an creative and hands on student therefore loved getting involved in the camera and learning about it's skills and what it can create. Although the cameras are quite complicated, once I picked up a few of the skills I started to work my way around them and really enjoyed them.
I have learnt how to use:
  • Auto and manual focus and how to switch between these.
  • ISO and aperture.
  • The different shutter speeds and when they are appropriate to be used.
  • The T stance.
  • Portrait as well as horizontal.
  • Where to stand to achieve a successful photo with the natural light.
